Religious Fanatics in the West

September 3, 2011

The west and westerners know nothing about Iran and Iranians. And Iranians know nothing about the west and the western people. The two side have serious delusions about each other. The majority of Iranians, i.e. at least more than 80% of them, hate all religious fanatics, especially Muslim fanatics. They hate Muslim fanatics more, because they are victim of these bastards. The Mullahs and stupid Islamists are among the greatest bastards in our planet, and Iranians hate them very much. But unfortunately the world and the west know nothing about the ordinary Iranian people and their difference with the Mullahs. On the other hand, Iranians know nothing about the west. They have very serious stupid delusions about the west. Iranian fake intellectuals have a main role in this great misunderstanding. These bastards, that the majority of them are mercenary and very stupid, don’t know the world and the history of the world. They only know money and mercenary job ! Many of them have serious delusions about the world, especially the west. They stupidly think that the majority of the ordinary people in the west, especially in USA, are philosopher or intellectuals!! and that’s why they can enjoy the freedom and democracy !! These stupid bastards don’t know that the number of fanatics, especially religious fanatics in the west is really large. These stupid bastards know nothing about many ultra-stupid fanatics who live in the US. These stupid bastards don’t know that Iran has at least 15 to 20 million university educated people, i.e. more that 30% of its population, and the number of stupid fanatics in Iran and the west are almost equal. These bastards don’t know that many American fanatics or western fanatics are really more stupid than their Iranian counterparts, and you can not find someone like them in Iran. These matters are important, because: (1) the world and the west have serious delusions about Iran and Iranians (2) Iranians have serious delusions about the west (3) Iranian bastards and fake intellectuals try to mislead the ordinary people about the west and the roots of freedom and democracy (4)Some stupid intellects have serious delusion about the root of global problems. Some Iranians say: “We don’t want to be disappointed about the west by knowing the truth”. But it’s very stupid. We should try to know the truth, even if it’s too scary or disappointing. Knowing the truth is better than being stupid and ignorant. The ignorant people are like sheep. Knowing the truth is necessary for making right decision, doing right action, and having right analysis . Now lets take a look at the fanatics and fundamentalism in the west, especially in the US.

In 2005, New York Times published a report which did a study and survey of Americans to determine their awareness The report said: “Millions of Americans are embarrassingly ill-informed and they do not care that they are. American adults in general do not understand what molecules are (other than that they are really small). Fewer than a third can identify DNA as a key to heredity. Only about 10 percent know what radiation is. One adult American in five thinks the Sun revolves around the Earth, an idea science had abandoned by the 17th century [!!!]. Can you believe it ?! We are sure that many Iranians (and non-Iranians) who have delusion about the west and the US can not believe it. But it’s not the whole story. Newsweek had published another interesting survey about Americans and faith that said: ‘48% of Americans do not believe that evolution is well-supported by evidence and widely accepted within the scientific community [They think evolution is a lie !] and 34% of college graduates accept the Biblical story of creation as fact [!]“. Some angry liberal Americans say: “Americans dont give a crap about the rest of the world. They elected some one like George Bush, twice. They know nothing of a world outside their own borders. 90% cant find Iraq on a World Map. 75% Of Americans Will Be Over Weight By 2015. Americans know nothing about world geography. The old joke is that “War is God’s way of teaching Americans geography.” When social scientists began measuring in a systematic manner what Americans actually know, the results were devastating. In 1991, Americans were asked how long the term of a United States senator is. Just 25% correctly answered six year [!!]. Today the number of Americans who can correctly identify and name the three branches of government is up to 50% [!!!] Which country dropped the nuclear bomb? Only 50% know it was their own country [!] In 2003, the Strategic Task Force on Education Abroad investigated Americans’ knowledge of world affairs. The task force concluded: “America’s ignorance of the outside world” is so great as to constitute a threat to national security [!!!] ” Ignorance is really a very big threat to human development. Some wise guys say: “The main problem of the US and the west is not corrupt politicians, corporations, or media; their main problem is people’s ignorance, the public ignorance. If the people were wise and well-informed, most of American and European problems would be solved very soon. The ignorant people make stupid decisions about their governments, their politicians, their future, their problems, their solutions, etc .” The stupidity or “Foolishness Disease”, that is the main global problem, means: Ignorance of critical facts about important events, ignorance of how the government functions, negligence and disinclination to seek reliable sources of information, inclination to believe what we want to believe regardless of the facts, shortsightedness and support of public policies that are mutually contradictory, or contrary to our long-term interests, susceptibility to stereotypes, irrational biases, and simplistic diagnoses and solutions that play on our hopes and fears, etc. For building a better world, we, all, should try to cure the epidemic of Foolishness Disease in the world.

Do you know that many American fanatics still believe in the flat earth ?! The Flat Earth model is a view that the Earth’s shape is a flat plane or disk. The American religious fanatics say: “the Bible teaches that the earth is flat” ! As we said before, about 20% of Americans think the Sun revolves around the Earth! , and the majority of them think that the earth is flat !! In 1956, Samuel Shenton set up the International Flat Earth Research Society, better known as the Flat Earth Society (http://theflatearthsociety.org/ ). Shenton’s primary aim was to reach children before they were convinced about a spherical Earth ! After Shenton, Charles K. Johnson spent years examining the studies of flat Earth theories and proposed evidence of a conspiracy against flat-Earth! His article was published in the magazine Science Digest, 1980. It goes on to state “If it is a sphere, the surface of a large body of water must be curved [!!] The Johnsons have checked the surfaces of Lake Tahoe and the Salton Sea without detecting any curvature [!!!].” The Society declined in the 1990s following a fire at its headquarters in California and the death of Charles Johnson in 2001. It was revived as a website in 2004. In their website, they say: “The modern age of the Flat Earth Society dates back to the early 1800s, when it was founded by Samuel Birley Rowbotham, an English inventor. Samuel Rowbotham’s Flat Earth views were based largely on literal interpretation of Bible passages [!!] “. They also add: ” Johnson passed away in 2001 at the age of 76, leaving the Society’s future uncertain. After several years of inactivity, the Flat Earth Society was resurrected in 2004 and remains active today at
theflatearthsociety.org The Society officially reopened to new members on 30th October 2009 [!!!] ” It’s really funny that some Americans still believe in flat earth, because as historians say: “even Columbus knew that the world is not flat. Christopher Columbus maintained that, because the world was round, it was possible to reach East Asia by sailing west . He was so convinced that he had reached India at the end of his first voyage in 1492 that he called the Native people Indians, a designation that remains common. Having actually discovered the Caribbean Islands, Central America, and South America during his four voyages, Columbus still believed that he had reached Asia by the time another Italian navigator, Giovanni Caboto sailed from England on a westward voyage across the north Atlantic in 1497. Caboto explored what he believed to be the northeastern coast of China”. It’s really funny. But reading some headlines from Flat Earth News during the ’70s and early ’80s is much more funnier: “Galileo Was a Liar ” (Dec. 1980) [!!], “Science Insults Your Intelligence” (Sep. 1980), “The Earth Is Not a Ball; Gravity Does Not Exist” (Mar. 1981), “The Earth Has No Motion” (Jun. 1979)”. Canada like the US has its own stupid guys. Some say: “The Flat Earth Society of Canada was set up by Leo Ferrari (19272010), a philosophy professor at the St Thomas University in 1970, and was active till about 1984. Their aims were quite different from other flat earth societies. They said a prevailing problem of the new technological age was the willingness of people to accept theories ‘on blind faith and to reject the evidence of their own senses .; It’s a stupid intellectual contradiction ! While’the willingness of people to accept theories on blind faith ‘, is really a very serious global problem, but “rejecting the evidence of their own senses “, is a very stupid thing. The religious fanatics say: “We can see the earth is flat, so it’s flat !! Can we feel the earth move around itself? so, it doesn’t move. etc” But it’s very stupid. Some wise guys say: “Can you see or sense the radio waves that work with your TV set, your cell phone, etc, or the microwave inside your microwave’s oven? We can not see or sense many things, but they exist. Our senses are not a good guide. Can the religious fanatics see their god ?!! How can they solve this big contradiction”

Of course all religious people are not as stupid as fanatics. Some of they try to be modern and say: “the Bible doesn’t teaches that the earth is flat” and some wiser guys say: “The Bible is not a textbook on science.” This saying is common among the Christian intelligentsia. It’s really better than the blind religious fanaticism. But the number of religious fanatics or stupid ignorant people in the US is really disappointing. In 2010, Newsweek published a list of ‘Dumb Things Americans Believe’ that said: “25% of Americans dont believe in Darwins theory of evolution while less than 40% do.” Some Americans say: “when NEWSWEEK asked 1,000 U.S. citizens to take Americas official citizenship test, 29% couldnt name the vice president, 73% couldnt correctly say why we fought the Cold War, 44% were unable to define the Bill of Rights. Most Americans cannot name their own member of Congress or their senators. If the problem were simply that Americans are bad at names, one would not have to worry too much. But they do not understand the mechanics of government either . Only 34% know that it is the Congress that declares war. Some 49% think the president can suspend the Constitution. Some 45% believe that revolutionary speech is punishable under the Constitution . Young people by many measures know less today than young people forty years ago. How much ignorance can a country stand? There have to be terrible consequences when it reaches a certain level”. We should not forget that all ignorant people and religious fanatics can be as dangerous as the Muslim fanatics. The Norwegian terrorist, Beriviek, showed us the truth. But unfortunately, many Iranians and non-Iranians know nothing about Christian fanatics in the west, especially in the US. Many know something about Muslim fanatics or Jew fanatics, but many don’t know anything about Christian fanatics, especially in the US. So, lets take a look at some religious fanatic and fundamentalist groups in the US. Evangelicalism is a Protestant Christian movement which began in the UK in the 1730s, and gained popularity in the US during the series of Great Awakenings of the 18th and 19th century. Evangelical influence in America was first evident in the late 19th century and early 20th century movement of prohibition movement, which closed saloons and taverns in state after state until it succeeded nationally in 1919. They changed the US Constitution ! (of course it lasted only for about 2 decades). In the first half of the 20th century, evangelicalism in America was largely synonymous with fundamentalism. George Marsden in Reforming Fundamentalism says, There was not a practical distinction between fundamentalist and evangelical: the words were interchangeable.” By the mid-1950s, largely due to the ecumenical evangelism of Billy Graham, the terms evangelicalism and fundamentalism began to refer to two different approaches. Fundamentalism aggressively attacked its liberal enemies; Evangelicalism downplayed liberalism and emphasized outreach and conversion of new members! (it’s more like a tactical difference!) Several recent studies and surveys have estimated the number of evangelicals in the US at about 25-30% of the population, or roughly between 70 and 80 million people ! It’s really horrible ! The majority of them are opposed to abortion, homos-e-x-u-a-lity, feminism, secularism, and modernism.

Adventism is another Christian movement which began in the 19th century. The name refers to belief in the imminent Second Coming (or “Second Advent”) of Jesus Christ. Its most vocal leader was William Miller. About 100,000 people in the US supported Miller’s predictions of Christ’s return. Miller and his followers, known initially as Millerites, proclaimed that the second coming would occur between March 21, 1843, and March 21, 1844. The failure of this prediction was called the First Disappointment, and many left the movement. Following this, a second date !, October 22, 1844 was set, and many Adventists disposed of their property in anticipation of the event. The movement was widely ridiculed after the day passed uneventfully . After the “Great Disappointment” of October 22, 1844 many people in the movement gave up on Adventism. But the Albany Conference in 1845, attended by 61 delegates, was called to attempt to determine the future course and meaning of the Millerite movement ! Following this meeting, the “Millerites” then became known as “Adventists” or “Second Adventists”. Four groups emerged from the conference: The Evangelical Adventists, The Life and Advent Union, the Advent Christian Church, and the Seventh-day Adventist Church . Today, the largest church within the movement is the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which founded in 1863, and had about 17 million baptized members worldwide as of 2010 ! Mormons , or Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a religion with about 10 million members, established in 1830 in the US by Joseph Smith, known as the prophet . Followers of this religion are called Mormons. Its founding doctrine was based on the assumption that Christianity was more or less corrupt and that restoring the true Christian gospel was necessary . Mormons are commonly perceived as a conservative Christian church and are often identified with Protestant fundamentalists. They supported Polygamy, and some of them still support Polygamy, like the American priest with 80 wives ! . The followers of such kind of clergymen are really stupid and fanatic. Mormons are opposed to abortion, homos-e-x-u-a-lity, feminism, and unreceptive to ‘unbiblical’ practices such as women in the priesthood ! like many Protestant
fundamentalists, they see themselves as resisting the forces of secularism and liberal compromise ! So, as you can see, the number of stupid people in all around the world, is really larger. The youth in all around the world should try to study about all kinds of fanatics and find some ways for decreasing the number of the stupid people. It’s necessary for building a better world, and a better future.
